ABOUT US

Gerry

Gerry has been married to John since 1975. They have two children and six grandchildren. Gerry was trained as a primary teacher and has taught in a number of local schools over the years. Nowadays, as well as working for the church she is a link tutor which involves visiting trainee teachers when they are in schools. Gerry has also run a number of parenting courses as a volunteer with the national charity ‘Positive Parenting’.

As a member of the leadership team Gerry is an organiser, so it falls to her to pull together many of our activities and liaise with the various teams. She is often involved with pastoral matters in church. She is a team player and a problem solver who loves to encourage people as they grow into maturity and see that God is so much bigger than we ever realise.

John

John is married to Penny and they have three children and four grandchildren. Both have retired from teaching having taught in Petersfield Schools for many years. John has a wealth of experience in youth work, which is currently being outworked in the King’s Arms youth project, where he is Chair of Trustees.  John is passionate about UNITY amongst all the Christians in Petersfield and has twice been Chair of Petersfield Area Churches Together, (PACT) and he and Gerry (Arnold) regularly meet with ministers from other churches.

John is passionate about our church vision ‘To be Jesus in the Community’ and helped start the Petersfield Town Chaplaincy, serving and supporting people in businesses in the town. He regularly connects with leaders in the Pioneer stream of churches, of which Life Church is a partner. He has been engaged in the ‘Restorative Justice Programme in our local prison HMP Winchester and seeks ways to promote this message in schools.

Mike

Mike was born in Jarrow situated on the banks of the River Tyne in the North East of England. He is married to Shirley who hails from the neighbouring town of Hebburn. They have two daughters living in Somerset and one son living in Canada and have three grandchildren. Mike studied for three years at a Bible College in Northumberland and served for over 10 years in a missionary society. It was while with this organisation he moved to Hampshire and in 1985 came to the church here in Petersfield. Mike has retired as an accountant in a manufacturing group of companies based in Alton and Daventry.

He has a passion for exploring and understanding the relevance of God’s heart for the world. His heart is to see a strong church made up of individuals that are released to fulfil their potential. He longs to see the church relevant to the people in Petersfield.

Simon

Simon has recently joined the Core Leadership Team having served for eight years as a Trustee of Life Church Petersfield, and three years as Chairman. He is passionate about Christians working together, especially here in Petersfield, and also for the presence of God to be manifest in our communities. He believes in justice and reconciliation..

He loves to worship both in Church and within the community and is a member of the Petersfield Choral Society. He is a History teacher in a local Prep School, where he is also Head of Year 8 and a Games coach. He loves quizzes and watching cricket and rugby. He is Dad to Thomas and Jemima and husband to Helen.

The Core Values of Life Church Petersfield

Biblical

The Bible is the basis of our Christian faith and we believe  it teaches us how to live our lives both individually and corporately.

Relational

We place a high value on safe, healthy, interdependent relationships with God, our families, church, community and those we have regular contact with.

Servant-hearted

We seek to reflect the servant heart of Jesus by serving God, the church and our community in a generous willing manner.

Empowering

We look to encourage, equip and support one another so we are able to meet challenges, embrace opportunities and reach our full potential.

Missional

We believe that the church should seek to be an influence for good in our families, our communities and the wider world.

Christ-centred

With the help of his Spirit we seek the heart and mind of Jesus to shape our thoughts, actions and attitudes.
